Dating fender stratocaster body
Newly released from Fender is the Jimi Hendrix Signature Stratocaster While there have been many variations on the Stratocaster over the years, the same basic design, with contoured body, bolt-on 25.5” scale length neck, three single-coil pickups and Fender vibrato system, has continuously remained at the heart of the Strat legacy.
Today, however, Fender markets an unprecedented variety of Stratocasters, ranging from the pint-sized Squier Mini Strat, with 22.75” scale neck and hardtail bridge, to pre-modded axes equipped with dual-coil humbucker pickups and Floyd Rose tremolo systems.
Fender offers the iconic Strat design in several versions, including various models in the Standard, Classic and Deluxe Series, as well as the US-made American Standard, Vintage and Deluxe Series.
They mix it up a bit with variants like the Road Worn Series, with vintage-vibe versions of classic Strats from the 50s and 60s, but pre-broken in and aged, so they feel as comfortable as an old friend right out of the box; or the Vintage Modified and Blacktop Series, offering axes hot-rodded with such niceties as high-output pickups and customized pickguards and finishes.
There were a few minor changes made in 55 from the first year 1954 model strat including headstock edges being less rounded and the tremolo cover was changed to oblong holes.
Stratocaster demonstrated additional changes as this great guitar continued to evolve.
Some might go by the pot codes, but those could have been stock a year or more old by the time they were put into the newly finished guitar.
There’s even a Custom Shop replica of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s treasured Lenny guitar for some truly authentic Scuttle Buttin’!Early finishes tended to be sunburst however the 70's tended towards natural finishes.Early 60's strats in Daphne Blue, Fiesta Red, Surf Green, Lake Placid blue and Burgundy Mist are unusual and desirable. The stratocaster is still in production with over 1 million guitars produced since introduction and remains the mainstay of the Fender product line. The "Strat" design featured a double cut design, contoured pick guard, recessed jack and great looks !The ash body design was based on the precision bass and features an asymmetrical double cut body which is contoured on the back. The pick guard followed the contours of the guitar creating a new look for Fender.
